The IBM tower, 43 stories high, is a five-sided sheer prismatic form with gray-green glass and gray-green polished granite detailed in sleek flush planes. The appearance of
the building changes when viewed from different directions-sometimes it will be a slab-like wall, sometimes a slender shaft, sometimes a tower cantilevering over the street corner. At the
corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue the building steps back under the granite cantilever to create an entrance to the main lobby and an open area for the pedestrians. |
